Looking for a Golf School

The other day, a friend of mine was checking out Arizona golf schools. When he told me what he was doing, I thought he was looking for a place to help him with his game. He definitely could use some help getting out of sand traps. What I found out was that he was considering a career in golf course management. That is when I received a bit of an education on golf schools.

Not every school related to golf is for those looking to improve their game. There are many schools that can train you in various jobs related to the golf industry. Golf careers span a whole array of jobs. As mentioned before, my friend wants to be a golf course manager. There are also courses of study related to teaching golf, management, and of course you can study to improve your game.

Personally, I always have believed that a professional in golf is a person that plays golf for a living. I never stopped to consider the people behind arranging the events and running the organizations that support golf. With golf colleges, people can learn to become a golf professional without having to face down Tiger Woods on the golf course.

I would definitely be interested in event coordination in golf, or anywhere else really. I feel like that is such a massive, lucrative field, but I have no idea how to break into it. Do golf schools cover that sort of events planner education?

Golf course management is much more complicated than it seems. Just consider the vastly multi faceted nature of the clubhouse, from fields to amenities, restaurants, member benefits, and function planning. There really is a lot going on off the links as well as on.

It's really interesting to look into the vast number of different education opportunities there are; I think it's wonderful because it encourages people to be very specific and limitless about their goals, whatever they are. Golf school, why not?

It's interesting that as a golf teacher or instructor you'd be required to know more than you would have learned from just playing the game yourself. I wonder if the expectation is to place directly into a golf instructor position?

This sort of seems to me part of a growing trend of teaching toward careers rather than teaching toward education. The prime incentive here seems to be to secure a very specific job after graduation, but that doesn't seem very positive to me.

That's a clever play on words, an "education" on golf "schools"! I think the more things a person learns the better, and more multidisciplinary, even better still. This sounds like a blast to me! I'll pass word on.

I wonder if improving your game is like a basic requirement; you have to have a such and such handicap in order to graduate? Seriously, though, just think of the guest speakers they'll have at graduation! Better than the snorefest that spoke at my graduation...
