Did you know that cooking schools saw an increase in attendance as a result of the recession? Here are some of the reasons that this probably occurred:
- Increased competition in the cooking industry. People who didn't already have culinary arts degrees needed to get them in order to compete against the larger number of people in the job market. People with degrees may get more advanced degrees to further set themselves apart from the competition.
- People getting laid off are going back to school. Many people in other fields have been laid off from their jobs. If they can't find work in their own industries then they may want to use this time to go back to school. Some of those people always wanted to get a culinary education and see this as an opportunity to do so.
- People are realizing the importance of doing work they love. It's no longer good enough to just do work that pays the bills because most jobs aren't secure anymore. People are turning to careers they love such as cooking.
- Some price drops in cooking schools. In order to meet the needs of students during this time some cooking schools dropped their rates a bit which encouraged new applications.
